Stone Steps Contractor in Connecticut

Stone steps are where safety and beauty meet. They carry every person who comes to your door, every day, in every kind of weather — so they have to be level, solid, and grippy underfoot. And because they sit right at the entrance or anchor a slope in the yard, they're also one of the most visible features on the property. Chabla's Construction LLC builds bluestone and granite steps across Connecticut that are as safe as they are handsome.

We build front entry steps, stone steps that climb a landscaped slope, and steps that connect patios, walkways, and terraces. Solid stone treads, stable risers, consistent rise and run, and a base that won't heave — that's what makes steps that feel rock-solid for decades. Licensed, insured, and free to estimate.

Solid Bluestone and Granite

We build with solid, full-thickness stone — bluestone slabs and granite blocks — not thin veneer over hollow forms. Solid treads feel substantial underfoot, wear beautifully, and last for generations. Granite block steps give a clean, monolithic, timeless look; bluestone treads on stone risers give a softer, layered New England feel. Both are superb for Connecticut entries and slopes.

Solid stone also handles our winters far better than poured concrete steps, which crack and spall as freeze-thaw and road salt attack them. Real stone just keeps going.

Safe, Consistent, and Code-Right

The single most important thing about steps is consistency. Risers that vary in height — even by a little — are a genuine trip hazard, because your body learns the rhythm of the first step and expects every step to match. We build steps with consistent rise and run, treads pitched just slightly to shed water, and surfaces that stay grippy when wet. Steps should feel safe without you having to think about them.

We set steps on a stable, compacted base below the surface so they don't settle or heave out of level over time — the failure that turns a nice set of steps into a hazard.

Steps That Tame a Slope

A steep grade between the driveway and the door, or up to a backyard, doesn't have to be an awkward scramble. A well-designed run of stone steps — sometimes paired with a low retaining wall or landings — turns a difficult slope into a comfortable, attractive climb. We lay out the rise and run so the climb feels natural and build in landings where a long run needs a break.

Because we also build retaining walls and walkways, we can integrate steps into the whole grade-management plan so the slope is both usable and good-looking.

Front Entry Steps That Make an Entrance

Your front steps frame the entry and carry the first impression of the home. Bluestone or granite steps, tied into a matching walkway and maybe a pair of stone pillars, instantly elevate the front of the house. We build entry steps that look like they belong to the architecture, not like an afterthought bolted onto the front.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do stone steps cost in Connecticut?

Stone step cost depends on the number of steps, the height of the grade, the material (bluestone vs. granite), and whether the project needs landings, railings, or a retaining wall alongside. A free on-site look is the best way to price it — call (203) 731-1694.

Are granite or bluestone steps better?

Both are excellent and built to last. Granite block steps give a clean, monolithic look; bluestone treads on stone risers give a layered, classic New England feel. It's mostly about the look you prefer — we'll show you both.

Why are my concrete steps cracking and these won't?

Poured concrete steps crack and spall because freeze-thaw cycles and road salt attack the concrete and the surface flakes. Solid natural stone doesn't have that weakness — it handles Connecticut winters far better and keeps its surface for decades.

Can you build steps on a steep slope?

Yes — that's one of our specialties. We lay out the rise and run for a natural-feeling climb, add landings where a long run needs them, and can integrate a retaining wall to hold the grade alongside the steps.

Will the steps be safe in winter?

We build consistent risers and treads with a slight pitch to shed water and a surface that stays grippy when wet, set on a stable base so they don't heave out of level. Consistency and drainage are what make steps safe year-round.

Do you give free estimates on steps?

Yes, always free. Send photos of the entry or slope to (203) 731-1694 and we'll take a look.
